How to Make a Heart Color Sensory Bag
Materials:
- Gallon-Size Plastic Sealable Storage Bag
- Clear Hair Gel
- Colored Permanent Markers
- Colored Beads or Pom-Poms to match the Permanent Markers
- Heart-Shaped Cookie Cutters
- Packing Tape or Duct Tape
Instructions:
- Begin by tracing four to six hearts on your gallon size plastic sealable storage bag. Use a different colored permanent marker for each heart. Remember to use colors that match your pom-pom or beads you selected.
- Pour hair gel into the gallon-size plastic sealable storage bag. Ensure you fill it so that the beads and/or pom-poms can easily move around.
- Next, add the beads or pom-poms. (Hint: If it is difficult to move the beads or pom-poms around the bag, add more hair gel.)
- Close the plastic sealable storage bag.
- Move all the beads to the middle of the bag, so it is easier to see the hearts.
*For younger children, add packing tape or duct tape to the top, bottom, and sides of the sealable storage bag, so that it does not open. Also, always supervise children, as the small beads and pom-poms are choking hazard items.
Extend the Learning:
Your heart color sorting sensory bag is ready! Your toddler or preschooler will enjoy moving the beads and/or pom-poms into the coordinating color heart. Once your little one sorts all the hearts, you can mix them up and try it again. Here are a few twists to extend the learning:
- Set a time to see how long it takes to match the beads and/or pom-poms to the color coordinating heart.
- Count the number of beads and/or pom-poms in each heart.
- Create a graph of the number of beads and/or pom-poms in each heart.
We hope you enjoyed this fun and entertaining learning activity!
